Two Different Burgers

Beet and Brown Rice Burgers
from Veggie Burgers Every Which Way, Lukas Volger, Wakefield Press, 2010.

I really like beetroot and I really like burgers so to find a recipe that combines the two was a find.

This book is a goldmine for burger lovers. There’s heaps of recipes for burgers of all kinds. I’m keen to try them all.

There was not much involved in making the burgers though the rice had to be cooked beforehand—and brown rice takes a while to cook.

When the ingredients were combined the result was a looser than usual burger mix. The recipe states that you need to sear the burgers on a high heat in the initial stage to help them hold their shape. This helped a little but they were still somewhat difficult to handle and tended to fall apart if you weren’t careful.

The taste? I had expected a much richer flavour and was let down a little by the result. It was tasty and juicy but overall not up to expectations. It was fine to eat but not what I had looked forward to.

Bounty Burgers
It’s not always easy to find a good commercial vegetarian burger but lately I have found one that is particularly good: Bounty Burgers. If you search around a little you will find them in the refrigerated section of some stores. They are worth a try.

Thank you, Simon, for heading me in their direction.
